Sometimes the signs that it’s time to replaster are obvious. For example, if you notice plaster is peeling or flaking along the steps of your pool or spa, you’re headed for a problem. Known as spalling, caused by low PH or low calcium levels.
Surface stains are another visible sign. They are caused by copper, calcium, and salt and can discolor a pool, turning it into a blotchy blue-gray hue. Some people may be able to acid wash a pool to remove the stains, but when these stains are severe, the only way to remove them is with a replaster.
Finally, because you live in earthquake country, small temblors or the settling of soil can cause structural cracks over time, that, if left untreated, will lead leaks that could not only force a replaster but the need to rebuild parts of the pool as well.
